The program objectives are to educate students on the life and times of Americans and the differences between Union and Confederate Soldiers during the Civil War and allow children the opportunity to interact with reproduced items.
The program consists of explaining to the class some of the reasons why the war took place and how Americans felt about the situation, the average soldier’s living conditions, how soldiers fought one another, information on local events (1862 Peninsula Campaign), and a complete demonstration of how the musket or rifled-musket works. During the program, students will have opportunities to model a uniform and equipment and facilitate the presenter with the program.
