Lecture & Book Signing

April 26, 2015 - 2 PM

The Virginia War Museum is proud to present a lecture & book signing by Tim Townsend, author of the acclaimed book, Mission at Nuremberg, the gripping story of Lutheran minister Henry Gerecke, the U.S. Army chaplain sent to minister to the 21 Nazi leaders awaiting trial after the end of World War II.

Based on scrupulous research & first-hand accounts, Mission at Nuremberg takes readers into the cells of the accused and the courtroom where they faced their crimes.  As the drama leading to the court’s final judgments unfolds, the book brings to life the developing relationship between Gerecke and Hermann Göring, Albert Speer, Wilhelm Keitel, Joachim von Ribbentrop, and other imprisoned Nazis as they awaited trial.

Powerful & harrowing, Mission at Nuremberg offers a fresh look at one of the most horrifying times in human history, probing difficult spiritual and ethical issues that continue to hold meaning, forcing us to confront the ultimate moral question: Are some men so evil they are beyond redemption?

Formerly the religion reporter at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Tim Townsend, holds master's degrees from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and Yale Divinity School. He has written for the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and Rolling Stone, among other publications. In 2005, 2011, and 2013, he was named Religion Reporter of the Year by the Religion Newswriters Association, the highest honor on the "God beat" at American newspapers. He is currently the news editor at Timeline.com, and lives in Washington, D.C.

This event is included in normal admission to the museum which is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors & active duty military, and $5 for children, ages 7-18. Seating will be limited. To reserve a seat, please contact Dick Hoffeditz at (757) 247-8523 or rhoffeditz@nnva.gov.
