    The objective of this program is to educate students on the historical background of the Balkan region and to use that information to analyze the current events in those countries today.   Geography, international relations, and culture are themes that the program explores through interection with the group.
    The program introduces the Balkan region with an historical and geographical overview of the foreign intervention into the Balkan Peninsula and its effects on the native peoples.   Emphasis is placed on events surrounding the beginning of World War One in Sarajevo and the cataclysmic results of that war.   The impact of communism and the Soviet Union after World War Two sets the stage for the conclusion of the program that discusses the current situation in the former Yugoslavian region that now is known as Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Macedonia.
