THE COMPANY OF MILITARY |

In 2002, the Virginia War Museum entered into an exciting new partnership with the Company of Military Historians. Founded in 1949, the Company is a non-profit organization of historians with a primary interest in military material cultural related to the Americas. The Company's journal, The Military Historian & Collector, produced through research and writing by its members, focuses on the uniforms, weapons, and equipment used by military forces in the Americas. The Company also produces a print series, Military Uniforms in America, which documents specific uniforms. Over the years, The Company acquired an impressive collection of uniforms, headgear, and accessories, as a resource for research and exhibits. Initially consisting of 180 artifacts donated by Anne S. K. Brown, one of the Company's founders, the collection grew to over 500 pieces. Unfortunately it remained largely in storage for many years. As part of this new partnership, the Virginia War Museum agreed to care for and exhibit this notable collection. With the generous support of the Virginia War Museum Foundation, the museum is introducing a new changing exhibit featuring several of these exceptional artifacts. Additional items will be integrated into displays at Lee Hall Mansion and Endview Plantation. In consideration for these efforts, the Virginia War Museum has been designated as the: Official Museum of the Company of Military Historians To learn more about the Company, please visit their website: http://www.military-historians.org © 2003, Virginia War Museum.
